Sunday, December 15, 2013 – The Malecon Wall is Being Replaced!

Posted by on December 15, 2013

Starting with the south end of the Malecon, the old wall is being torn out and replaced with a blue pipe fence. This move or removing the barrier is supposed to help make the Malecon nicer by affording a better view of the sea from businesses, prevent contamination of the beaches by making things more visible, and help prevent drinking on the Malecon.

Heavy Machinery arrived on the Malecon to drive in thick steel supports along the wall.

All along the south end, the wall is now gone, and huge crane is set up to pound in metal reinforcements to help stabilize the sidewalk and wall against the high tides of the sea. Make sure to drive carefully around this construction.

A crane is set up as a piledriver.

So many people enjoyed sitting on the wall visiting with people and enjoying the scene on the Malecon. I hope they put in benches so locals and visitors can continue to meet and visit.
